This will be especially true with the release of D2:R, where playing the full game has the LoD expansion selected by default. When people refer to 'Classic' Diablo II, they are talking about the original version of the game, without the LoD features activated. Characters created without the expansion will continue on seamlessly as Classic (non-Expansion) characters. This also allows players who have been playing the original version of Diablo II to bring in their characters without forcing them to change which version they play. If you wish to play the original four-act version of Diablo II, unchecking this box will remove access to the features introduced in the Lord of Destruction expansion. When you create a new character in D2:R, you will be presented with a checkbox marked Expansion. This has an effect on many aspects of the game, including Ladders, the seasonal competition where players vie with one another for top leveling honors.Īll players who purchase the Diablo II: Resurrected version of the game will have access to all versions of Diablo II, including the LoD expansion.
Players can choose either to play a Standard version of Diablo II, which does not include content from the Lord of Destruction (LoD) expansion, or play the full version of the game with the LoD content in place.
One of the beauties of Diablo II: Resurrected (D2:R) is that players have a choice of what content they wish to include with their character.
